LA
PLAZA DE MERCADO
"A MARKET WITHIN A MARKET"
- Sunday 20 April 2008
Queen
Victoria Market will come alive again with dazzling colour and energy on Sunday
April 20 for the recreation of "a market within a market" La Plaza de
Mercado.
Last
year 35,000 people experienced the vitality and liveliness of La Plaza de Mercado,
showcasing the sights, sounds and beauty of some of the 22 countries of Latin
America and Spain and this year promises to be even more exciting!
Now
in its fourth year, this unique event will feature the distinctive elements and
diversity from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico,
Paraguay, Peru, Spain and Uruguay from 29 specialty stallholders.
We
invite all Melbournians to come and enjoy the free salsa dance classes, the sensual
rhythm and exhilarating beat of live Latin bands, explore the market stalls of
traditional handicrafts, savour delicious South American food and taste an exotic
Mexican beer in our new beer garden proudly sponsored by Mexican Liquor Imports.
La Plaza de Mercado 20 April 2008 - put it in your diary!
La
Plaza de Mercado is brought to you by CELAS (The Spanish Latin American Welfare
Centre Inc.) who provide community assistance and services to the 25,000 Spanish
speaking people in Victoria. Proudly supported by the Victorian Multicultural
commission (VMC) and the City of Melbourne, Lord Mayor John So said:
"Melbourne
is recognised as the events and festival capital of Australia. La Plaza de Mercado
is a magnificent community event that embraces our diversity, multiculturalism
